Parent & Player Expectations

Player expectations

  1. Players are expected to demonstrate exemplary conduct, on and off the pitch especially when a player is wearing Tsunami/ Tacoma Rugby attire.  You are representing the entire club.

  2. Adhere to school, community, and parent expectations.  THIS MEANS NO MISSING HOMEWORK, GOOD GRADES & LISTEN TO YOUR PARENTS!

  3. Respect the referees at all times on & off the pitch. The referee will not tolerate backtalk or disrespectful behavior and will also not be tolerated by the club.

  4. Demonstrate courtesy, fairness, and respect to all athletes, clubs, and spectators.

  5. ATTEND EACH AND EVERY PRACTICE, BE ON TIME READY TO GO, AND HAVE ALL YOUR GEAR. When players are missing from practice, it not only hurts your team but could affect your position. Contact your team manager or Coach in advance if you are unable to attend.

  6. If transportation is needed, work this out in advance whether it is practice or match days. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.

  7. AT HOME MATCHES (Portland Ave), PLAYERS ARE EXPECTED TO ASSIST WITH FIELD SET UP/TEAR DOWN (BEFORE FIRST MATCH & AFTER LAST MATCH/FEED).

  8. Refrain from the use of profanity, obscene language, or act of vulgarity. Remember that we have all levels with many younger players that will be with us.

  9. Actively participate in all fundraising and social activities (remember this is for YOUR benefit!)

  10. HAVE FUN!

Parent expectations

  2. Bring your child to practice or match day at the scheduled arrival time.

  3. For matches, make sure the player is wearing game shorts, and has cleats and a mouth guard. (if they don’t, they will either not play, or become a 3rd string backup)

  4. Plan for Saturdays to be “rugby days”.

  5. Pay attention, and respond, to club emails and messages on the Club app; Spond.

    1. Failure to “accept” match day invites by the previous Tuesday's practice will lead to a player being removed from the match day roster, or at least moved to 3rd string backup.

    • Do not ask to have your kid put in…

    • Do not talk to ref’s from the sidelines...

    • Parents cannot go onto the pitch for any reason. Coaches and med team are trained in all relevant rugby situations

  9. Prepare your player at home. Each coach provides relevant videos to help prepare the players for Rugby. Watch videos at home, study the rules and familiarize the player of what to expect. Practice passing at home. If a player needs to borrow a ball, talk to your coach.
